Furniture Refinishing & Repair Raleigh Angier 919-449-7902

Don’t panic, we can fix that!

January 17, 2015 By Dawn Salpeck

So you have recently moved and you have incurred damage to your furniture. Don’t panic!

Whether you have hired a company to move your furnishings or whether you moved your furniture yourself, most damage incurred is fixable!Dresser drawer repair

Furniture repair companies such as Salpeck’s Furniture Service specialize in repairing furniture and work with commercial moving companies to resolve moving claims.

The good news is, most furniture damage caused by moving companies are repairs that can be made in the home.

Most of our claims are from moving companies directly. We work with many moving companies, local and out of state to repair damage caused by movers during a move. Typically the moving company will contact us directly, send us a vendor form and we take it from there.

Sometimes, pieces cannot be adequately repaired in the home and will have to be repaired in the shop. We can pick-up the damaged items and bring them to our shop for repair.

If repairs exceed what the moving company originally agreed to, we will work directly with them to obtain approval for any additional repairs.

If your furniture has been damaged during transit, take these steps to resolve the issue:

  • First – contact the van line or moving company that moved you. Have their claims department send or fax you their standard moving claim form.
  • The moving company will provide the furniture repair company with the customer contact information, list of damages noted by the customer, and they typically tell the furniture repair company if the customer has basic coverage or has paid for additional insurance coverage.
  • The furniture repair company will contact the customer and discuss with them the items that can be repaired in home (basic touch up) and determine if any of the items require repair in the shop.
  • If the items require repair in the shop, then a pick up time and estimated delivery time will be discussed with the customer.
  • After the repairs are made, an invoice is sent to the moving company directly.

The steps listed above apply to any furniture claims repair company. Salpeck’s Furniture Service will also work directly with customers and provide them with an invoice upon completion of work, for reimbursement by the moving company.

Generally speaking, in shop repairs and touch-up normally require approximately 2 weeks.

If a piece needs complete refinishing, it can take 4-6 weeks depending on the item and the finishing techniques required to return it to original condition.

At Salpeck’s Furniture Service, we give the van lines, moving companies and their clients priority for in-shop work and do our best to make everyone happy.
