We all like to keep our wood furniture looking nice, but we never stop to realize that most store-bought products may actual be bad for our furniture.
Aerosol wood polish sprays generally just coat the surface in a slick shine. They do not actually ‘feed’ the wood, moisturize it, nor does the shine last very long.
There are several ways to naturally care for your wood that you can make at home.
Below are some Homemade Furniture Polish recipes that I personally use and that work well :
Olive-Oil lemon Polish
1 ½ cups of olive oil
1 cup of lemon juice OR several drops of lemon essential oil
2 clean cloths
Spray bottle (optional)
Beeswax Wood Sealant and Polish
1/2 cup of grated beeswax or beeswax pastilles
1 ½ cups olive oil
Several drops of essential oil (optional)
A glass container for storage
Coconut Oil Rub
About 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
A clean soft cloth
I also found this recipe for homemade furniture polish on line that I like :
Homemade Dusting Spray
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon olive oil
3 cups water
Pour all three ingredients into an empty spray bottle. Shake well and spritz on furniture. Wipe with an old cotton t-shirt. Done!
If you feel like you’re missing out on a lemony scent, you can chop a lemon and drop it into a small saucepan of simmering water. Feel free to also toss in a few springs of rosemary and your home will smell naturally fresh!
Another option is to use a few drops of essential lemon oil.
If you are not so adventurous with homemade concoctions and do prefer to purchase a product in the stores, I can recommend a product that we always have on hand:
Howard Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish which can be purchased in any of your local hardware stores.
