Suggestions for buying furniture at a flea market and refinishing it for use in your home or resale.
I am sure you have all watched Lara Spencer from Flea Market Flip with HGTV where she frequents flea markets and transforms junk into treasure, or have even heard the saying “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” Well we believe the same.
Salpeck’s Furniture is always on the hunt for quality furniture that has appeal. We can turn any piece of junk into a piece of art.
We always ask ourselves these questions when hunting for pieces we want to transform:
- Is the furniture wood?
- Are the drawers made with dovetail (or notched) construction?
- Can I make a profit after I invest in items like paint, hardware, and or possibly new upholstery if needed?
- Will this be something I would keep in my own home after it’s done?
- How much time will I spend on this piece?
We usually like to look for pieces that will be a quick flip for us. However, we love a challenge!
90% of the time we sell the pieces; however, there have been a few times that we fall in love with the finished project and keep it.
This red dresser is a great example of a profitable flip. We paid $5.00 for a solid-wood dresser (if you can believe it).
We sold it for $275.00!
The person we purchased it from just wanted to get rid of all she had because she did not want to pay movers to move it. That piece took Buddy just a few short hours to complete and we flipped it fast.
What are some treasures you have found at flea markets?
