Early October, the Raleigh and Fuquay-Varina, NC areas were under a storm warning due to the effects of Hurricane Matthew. Matthew had already slammed the coast of Florida and was working its way up to the coast of North Carolina. The forecast predicted heavy rainfall and high winds in the interior towns of North Carolina, including the small town of Fuquay-Varina.
Little did we know, Hurricane Matthew would be devastating and life changing for Salpeck’s Furniture Service.
On Saturday October 8, 2016, Hurricane Matthew caused widespread flooding in Eastern and Central North Carolina. Some areas in Fuquay-Varina received a total of 8 inches of rain!
Once the worst of the storm had passed, Buddy received word that our furniture service business was flooded. We ventured out to check the damage and found we could only access the business by boat! Salpeck’s Furniture Service was under 10 feet of water!
All we could do was wait for the water to recede and assess the damage.
The next day, we visited what was left of Salpeck’s Furniture Service…everything was destroyed!
Upon seeing the loss and devastation we didn’t know what we were going to do. How could we possibly start over? Not only was the building flooded but so was all of Buddy’s tools and equipment.
Ironically, Salpeck’s furniture service specializes in restoring furniture including furniture damaged by flooding. Now we needed to figure out how to restore our business!
We moved into panic mode and wondered how we would rebuild.
Salpecks’ Furniture Service has been in business in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina for more than 15 years. Buddy is a true furniture craftsman who has restored hundreds of cherished furniture pieces for clients in the Raleigh, Apex, Cary, Angier, Fuquay-Varina and surrounding areas.
As the beautiful sunshine came out on October 9th we began to plan how we would restore our furniture business. We had to find a way to make the best of this tragic experience.
Our new beginning is here!
We just signed a lease in a 1600 square foot facility in Angier, North Carolina. Our new space has a large office, a place for clients to visit and a huge workshop. We are excited to announce that our new facility opened on November 1, 2016.
Our plan is to continue providing service to the same areas, but expand our service to the Angier area as well. In addition to continuing with our furniture repair and restoration business, we will also be building custom farmhouse tables. Our custom farm tables will be sold in local furniture stores.
We are excited for our new beginnings and will continue to share our journey as we set up shop in Angier, North Carolina.
Come and visit us as our new location!
